Like all biodynamic preparations, also horn silica needs a complete annual cycle during which it can ripen.
The quartz used for the preparation of horn silica, whose active principle is silicon oxide, has a very large reflecting surface when it pulverises; in this form, once placed in the cow's horn and exposed to light energy and summer heat and then finally sprayed, it spreads out the collected light. In this way, it gives the plants a high photosynthetic capacity that highly stimulates the growth of the plant and the production of sugars as well as it protects from sunrays.
According to Steiner, spray preparations affect growth dynamics of plants throughout their cycle.
If Horn Silica ripens in the soil where natural processes of transformation of the silica are activated which fosters their bioactivity, it will increase the floral induction, boost the germination of the seeds, support the plant during the light absorption processes, promote and order the plant metabolism, improve growth and it will stimulate the right ripening of the fruits, also improving their quality and colour and strengthening the plant defensive system against fungi and insects.
